Maryam Hassan, Class of 2026

“My name is Maryam Hassan and I joined Bridgewater in 2026 when I was in Year 3. I have had the unique experience of spending both my primary and secondary education at Bridgewater, and graduating in 2026 marked my tenth anniversary at the school.
From a young age, Bridgewater made sure there were always opportunities for me to get involved in beyond the classroom. During primary school, I took part in activities such as Gardening Club and after-school Karate, which encouraged me to try new things, meet different people and develop interests outside of my studies. As I progressed through Senior School, these opportunities continued in different ways, allowing me to take on greater responsibilities and discover where my passions lay.
I knew from an early age that I had an interest in STEM subjects, and one of the things I have valued most about Bridgewater is the support I have received from teachers and staff. They have always been approachable and willing to give their time, whether that was helping me academically, supporting me with university applications or encouraging me to get involved outside the classroom. Thanks to their constant support, I was even able to secure an incredible work experience opportunity with Williams Racing.
During my time at Bridgewater, I was fortunate to take on a number of roles that helped me develop beyond my studies. I became Head of the Women in STEM Club, where I was able to encourage younger girls to explore STEM subjects and careers, and I also served as Deputy Head Girl. These experiences helped me develop my leadership, communication and teamwork skills, while giving me the confidence to take on new challenges.
The school also supported me in pursuing my passion for engineering and Formula 1. My work experience with Williams Racing gave me an insight into the engineering, innovation and teamwork behind Formula 1 and confirmed that Mechanical Engineering was the right path for me.
As I now prepare to begin my Mechanical Engineering degree, I feel that Bridgewater has give me much more than an education. I am extremely to the teachers and staff who have supported and encouraged me throughout my ten years at Bridgewater. I will always value the role the school has played in helping me grow into the person I am today and in preparing me for this next chapter.”
