Design and Technology

A high proportion of students take Design and Technology as an A Level subject and, as a result, leave for Higher Education with a high level of practical and problem solving skills. The Design and Technology A Level course explores the principles of design, engineering and manufacturing, encouraging students to think creatively and critically about how products are developed to meet human needs. It combines technical knowledge with practical application, covering materials, processes, digital technologies and the wider social, environmental and economic contexts of design, and is the perfect option for those students who enjoy the freedom to come up with their own creative ideas and the tools and opportunity to bring them to life.

Eduqas course components:

Component 1: Design and Technology in the 21st Century (3 hour written examination, 50% of qualification)

Component 2: Design and Make Project (80 hour non-exam assessment, 50% of qualification)

Design and Technology is a popular A Level, incorporating many of the top ten sought-after skills that are valued by future employers. Future pathways might include: Product Designer, Engineer, Industrial Designer, UX/UI Designer, Product Manager and Architect.
