Higher Education Guidance

As a Sixth Form student at Bridgewater School, you will see just how liberating it can be to study in an environment that values both individuality and academic excellence. It is an approach which has resulted in consistent placements of students in the university of their choice, year after year.

Developing individuals, achieving together

As you will discover, all our students enjoy strong, nurturing and rewarding relationships with their teachers who encourage the sharing and debating of ideas with passion and mutual respect.

Our tutorial system enables tutors to give individual attention to every student including personalised guidance and one-to-one support throughout the UCAS process. Students are introduced to the UCAS system in Year 12 and receive intensive support with their Personal Statement and UCAS application process early in Year 13.

Personalised advice regarding careers and Higher Education is given to students in four ways including:

1. Through an ongoing programme of careers guidance and weekly dedicated Higher Education / Enrichment sessions. As part of the programme, the whole of Year 12 also attend the UCAS Higher Education Exhibition at Manchester Central in the Spring term.

2. Through individual consultations with students which take place on a regular basis both with their form tutor and the Head of Sixth Form

3. Through a series of talks by visiting speakers, including representatives from Higher Education, Apprenticeship Schemes and key professions.

4. Through individual interviews with professional external careers advisers.
