Business Studies

At Bridgewater Sixth Form we take a holistic approach to the Business Studies subject, demonstrating the interrelated nature of business using business models, theories and techniques to support analysis of contemporary business issues and situations to provide a dynamic specification. The content is designed to engage students through topics and contemporary developments that are relevant in today’s society such as Digital Technology and Business Ethics, and Globalisation.

We follow the Edexcel A Level Business syllabus and students are able to study the subject at either AS or A Level.

AS level

There are two exams at AS level at the end of Year 12.

The AS course includes the following topics:

  • What is business
  • Managers
  • Leadership and decision-making to improve marketing performance
  • Operational performance
  • Financial performance
  • Human Resource performance.

A Level

There are three exams at the end of Year 13.

The first year includes those topics as listed for the AS course content. During the second year, students will study the following:

  • Analysing the strategic position of a business
  • Choosing strategic direction
  • Strategic methods
  • How to manage strategic change.

A Level Business Studies opens up many degree course options for further study such as Business and Management Studies, Marketing, Accountancy and Finance.

At Bridgewater they do everything they can to ensure we achieve our full potential, both academically and personally.
