Entry into Key Stage 4

The transition into Key Stage 4 is one of the most important stages in your child’s education. These two GCSE years shape future opportunities, confidence, academic direction and ultimately life choices.

Our students leave Year 11 not only with outstanding results, but with belief in themselves and clarity about their future pathways. Whether progressing to our own Sixth Form or beyond, our pupils move up well-prepared, resilient and highly capable individuals.

Our aim is for every student to achieve their personal best – whether that is a grade 9 or a grade 5. What matters most is progress, confidence and exceeding expectations.

2026 GCSE results highlights:

  • Over one third of all grades were 9-7
  • 20% of grades were at the highest levels (9-8)
  • Almost 60% of all grades were 6 and above
  • The national benchmark of five or more strong GCSE passes is consistently met and exceeded.

These outcomes reflect our belief that investment in high-quality teaching, structured support and individual care produces measurable success.

 

Year 10 availability

Our transition from a two-form to a three-form intake in Year 10 provides a limited number of additional places for dedicated and ambitious learners who would benefit from an individualised approach or a more academically focused environment.

Families often consider joining us at this stage because:

  • Their child would benefit from smaller class sizes
  • They are seeking greater academic stretch
  • They want longer preparation for Sixth Form
  • They are looking for a more values-driven environment

Admissions process

Our admissions process is designed to be personal and supportive.

Step 1: Initial enquiry – contact us via email at admin@bwslive.co.uk or call 0161 794 1463

Step 2: Informal meeting & tour – families meet with the Headteacher or Deputy Heads for a discussion and personal tour of the school

Step 3: Assessment – students complete age-appropriate assessments in English and Maths and join their year group for a taster session. (Students may also be asked to provide a sample of their current work)

Step 4: School reference – we request a confidential report from the student’s current school

Step 5: Offer & GCSE options – successful candidates complete their registration and submit the GCSE Options Subject Selection form (option blocks change annually to reflect cohort preferences).
