Cambridge International A-level Information Technology 9626
The course aims to help develop a broad range of IT skills and knowledge of the uses of IT in vocational contexts, as a basis for progression into further learning in IT-related fields. It also aims to develop an understanding of the constituent parts, uses and applications of IT systems within a range of organisations including the use of basic computer networks. The course allows students to develop an understanding of the effect of these IT systems on society in general and an understanding of the main system’s life cycle, and apply this learning to workplace scenarios. Students are given the capacity to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically; the skills to work collaboratively; the ability to apply skills, knowledge and understanding of ICT in a range of contexts. Finally, it provides a sound progression from AS to A2.
In both Year 12 and Year 13 students will sit two exams. There will be one theory and one practical exam in each year of equal weighting.
IT and ICT are both popular courses with students developing a range of important skills, many of which are transferable and useful for a wide range of jobs.
