Enrichment Expedition to Costa Rica

We are thrilled to announce an exciting and life-changing opportunity for our students: an Enrichment Expedition to Costa Rica in Summer 2026. Organised in partnership with Outlook Expeditions, the UK’s leading independent provider of youth development programmes, this incredible adventure offers students the chance to develop core skills, build character and cultivate resilience through an immersive, inspirational hands-on learning experience.

At Bridgewater School, we believe that experiences outside the classroom are essential for personal growth. This expedition will challenge students to step out of their comfort zones, develop practical leadership skills, and gain a deeper understanding of different cultures and global issues. By encouraging responsible travel, this journey of discovery will create an awareness of the wider world and each student’s place within it.

Students will have the unique opportunity to engage in meaningful projects that directly support local communities and environmental conservation efforts. These might include sea turtle conservation on the stunning Nicoya Peninsula, assisting the ‘La Luchita’ community cooperative, or supporting the vital work at the ASIS animal sanctuary. Through these partnerships, students will gain a rare insight into some of the world’s most pressing environmental and social issues while making a tangible difference.

The physical challenges of the expedition are equally exciting, with opportunities to trek through breathtaking cloudforests, dense rainforests, and the renowned Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Students may also have the chance to summit a mountain peak, visit remote villages, and embark on thrilling adventures such as white-water rafting. These activities are designed to push students physically and mentally, helping them grow in confidence and resilience.

Costa Rica is a country of awe-inspiring landscapes, nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Home to tropical rainforests, dramatic coastlines, mountains, lakes and volcanoes, it is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world. During the 16-day expedition, students will encounter extraordinary wildlife such as spider monkeys, sloths and colourful parrots, while enjoying unforgettable adventures in this rich and vibrant environment.

The expedition programme begins two years before departure, allowing students to be fully involved in every aspect of their journey. From the initial launch event through to planning the itinerary, generating funding and final preparations, this will be a true learning experience from start to finish.

Open to students currently in Years 9 to 12, this expedition offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to broaden horizons, develop leadership skills and create lifelong memories. We encourage all students interested in challenging themselves and contributing to global initiatives to get involved and start their journey of discovery in Costa Rica.

Giving everyone the opportunities they need to succeed
