Entry into Key Stage 3 and in-year transfers

Sometimes families seek a change of school to better suit their child’s academic needs, ambitions or wellbeing. A move during Key Stage 3 can provide the fresh start, renewed motivation or additional stretch that enables a young person to truly flourish.

At Bridgewater, we welcome enquiries for in-year transfers where places are available, offering students the opportunity to join a community built on shared values of inclusivity, intellect, integrity and inspiration.

 

Unlocking greater potential

For some students, a change of environment at this stage unlocks potential that may previously have been undiscovered. The early secondary years are crucial in building the foundations for GCSE success. Strong study habits, subject confidence and self-belief developed in Years 7-9 have a lasting impact on later outcomes.

Limited places may be available during Key Stage 3 for students who would benefit from:

  • Greater academic stretch and challenge
  • Smaller class sizes and individual attention
  • A more personalised approach and tailored support
  • A values-led environment where character matters
  • Renewed confidence and engagement with learning.

Students joining during Key Stage 3 are carefully supported to ensure a smooth transition both academically and socially.

We focus on:

  • Closing any gaps and strengthening core skills
  • Building positive relationships with teachers and peers
  • Encouraging intellectual curiosity and independence
  • Developing resilience and pride in achievement.

Our two-form intake and smaller class sizes allow teachers to know each student well, ensuring that support and challenge are carefully balanced. Above all, we aim to help every child feel valued, understood and capable of success.

 

Admissions process

Step 1: Initial enquiry contact us via email at admin@bwslive.co.uk or call 0161 794 1463.

Step 2: Informal meeting & tour – families meet with the Headteacher or Deputy Heads for a discussion and personal tour of the school

Step 3: Assessment – students complete age-appropriate assessments in English and Maths and join their year group for a taster session

Step 4: School reference – we request a confidential report from the student’s current school.

Each application is considered individually, with care and attention given to ensuring the right fit for both the student and the school.
