A celebration of music across Bridgewater School

From one of our youngest Reception performers to accomplished Sixth Form musicians, our recent Music Showcase brought pupils from across the school together for an evening celebrating talent, confidence and the simple enjoyment of making (and listening to) music.

Following the Art and Design Technology Exhibition, families and guests gathered for a vibrant programme featuring performers from both Prep and Senior School.

With classical music, musical theatre favourites and energetic rock performances all featuring during the evening, the programme reflected the breadth of musical interests and opportunities at Bridgewater – as well as providing pupils of different ages and levels of experience with the opportunity to perform in front of a supportive audience.

For Director of Music, Mrs Embrey, it was that sense of students coming together which made the evening particularly special.

“Our recent Music Showcase was a wonderful celebration of the incredible musical talent that exists throughout our school community. Featuring performers from both the Prep and Senior School, the evening was packed with an impressive variety of music, outstanding performances and plenty of good humour.”

Among many memorable moments was Early Years pupil Rishaan Joshi, who captured the audience with a heartfelt song from Oliver!, performing with remarkable confidence and charm. Year 9’s Oliver Matthews also revealed a natural flair as the front man of a rock band, in one of those performances which demonstrated how opportunities on stage allow pupils’ personalities to shine just as brightly as their musical ability.

Staff musicians joined pupils during the evening too, reinforcing the relaxed, inclusive atmosphere and the sense that music at Bridgewater is something to be enjoyed and shared throughout our school community.

While the performances themselves provided plenty to celebrate, the evening also reflected something broader about the value of music within school life. Learning an instrument, singing with others or stepping onto a stage develops far more than musical technique, it asks young people to listen, collaborate, practise, persevere and, perhaps most importantly, find the confidence to perform for others.

As Mrs Embrey reflected:

“Music is about so much more than technical skill. It is about creativity, courage, collaboration and the joy of performing together.”

With pupils from Reception through to Sixth Form represented, the Showcase captured something particularly special about our 3-18 community: younger pupils able to see where their interest and talents might take them, older students providing inspiration, and everyone having the opportunity to contribute.
