Year 9 Haworth visit – March 2026
A trip has been organised to visit Haworth, home of the Bronte sisters, on Thursday 12th – Friday 13th March 2026. This is to tie in with the scheme of work we follow in English on the topic of ‘Monsters’, which includes exploring 19th century gothic writers such as Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley and the Brontes. The Haworth visit has been arranged to deepen students’ contextual understanding of the life and works of the Brontes. It is also intended to provide supporting preparation work for the gothic creative writing that students will be required to complete during the spring term, using Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, Haworth and the Yorkshire Moors as their inspiration.
We will leave school straight after morning registration on Thursday 12th March, and will be staying at the YHA in Haworth, where we will have exclusive use of the building. Over the two day visit, students will be participating in a range of activities including a visit to the Bronte Parsonage, a creative writing workshop, a moorland walk to Top Withens (believed to have been Emily Bronte’s inspiration for Wuthering Heights), a pot painting activity, and an evening ‘Haunted Haworth Ghost Walk’. We will be dining at the Treetop Bar and Kitchen on Thursday evening and students will also have the opportunity to explore the village of Haworth during our stay. We will return to school before the end of the day on Friday 13th March; students will therefore be able to make their usual travel arrangements home from school.
Students may bring some additional spending money if they wish to purchase anything from the gift shops in Haworth.
