ICT

In an increasingly digital world, ICT provides students with an opportunity to acquire useful and practical skills needed in further education and work that will enable them to thrive.

It is the aim of the ICT department here at Bridgewater School, to develop and stimulate students’ curiosity, interest and enjoyment in ICT and encourage students to have open, enquiring minds. Through the study of ICT, students should become self-sufficient users of ICT with the associated skills to support life-long study, the pursuit of personal interests and prospective employment in a modern society. We enable students to acquire appropriate, transferable computing and ICT skills that they can apply to their learning across the curriculum. Personal safety and cyber security are reinforced throughout all teaching.

Key Stage 3 Computing and ICT

All students study Computing and ICT in Years 7, 8 and 9. The curriculum focuses on understanding computer systems and developing the capacity to create content, programmes and systems. It also covers a wide range of ICT uses and applications. An emphasis is placed on developing students’ computing and ICT capability and creativity. Skills, knowledge and understanding of the subject are developed to enable students to make effective progress both in terms of academic qualifications and their wider use of ICT.

Key Stage 4 – IGCSE ICT

The IGCSE ICT Edexcel Course allows students to explore how digital technology impacts on the lives of individuals, organisations and society. Students will learn about current and emerging digital technologies and the issues raised by their use in a range of contexts. The course also develops an awareness of the risks that are inherent in using ICT and the features of safe, secure and responsible practice. It also broadens and enhances ICT skills and capability.

ICT is an International GCSE, taught in over 55 countries and recognised worldwide. Assessment is in the form of a 1.5 hour written paper and a 3 hour practical examination, both of which each form 50% of the marks.

We believe our difference is, the way we treat all our students differently, as the true individuals they are.
